Art of museum district dining

Going to the Kimbell Art Museum to see the impressionist exhibit from the Art Institute of Chicago that starts Sunday? Here’s where to walk nearby to eat:

Cafe Modern: Chef Dena Peterson offers a new menu inside the Modern Art Museum, with saffron-summer squash bisque; crispy corn-crusted soft-shell crab with spicy yuzu-ginger-laced Asian greens and chile threads; and chilled ginger-sake marinated shrimp with sesame-mustard vinaigrette, mixed lettuces and roasted peanuts. 3200 Darnell St., Fort Worth; 817-840-2157; www.themodern.org.

Lanny’s Alta Cocina Mexicana: New lunch items include walu ceviche with avocado-green apple puree and balsamic-pickled onion; and Kobe skirt steak salad with red onion and Point Reyes blue cheese dressing. At dinner, new choices are poblano-nopal cactus risotto with duck breast; and coconut-crusted halibut with fiddlehead ferns. 3405 W. Seventh St., Fort Worth, 817 850-9996; www.lannyskitchen.com.

Michaels: Main dining room picks range from ranch tortilla soup and seared ahi tuna to pan-seared beef tenderloin in ancho chile-bourbon sauce. In the bar, choose from goodies such as smoked salmon, shrimp cocktail, cheese board, fried calamari and Mexican "poker chips." 3413 W. Seventh St., Fort Worth; 817-877-3413; www.michaelscuisine.com.

Tommy’s: Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, this friendly joint serves up burly burgers topped with everything from bacon and Swiss cheese to hickory and Cheddar — and there are chicken-fried steak and catfish baskets, too. If you need something more virtuous, try the big green salad topped with grilled tuna. 3431 W. Seventh St., Fort Worth; 817-885-7500. www.tommyshamburgergrill.com.
